A
Hi Jack,
How are you? I'm writing to tell you something exciting. Last term, the evening self-study class of our school was not a period just for study. We had more choices. We could make interesting things.
At first, we could only make things like paper-cuts. But little by little, we learned to make toys, learning tools, and even some bags.
At the same time, some of us students had worries, too. We would be making things while students in other schools kept working hard. What if we fall behind in our studies because of this? But up to now, I think this is a great chance for me to slow down. It makes me more creative in both my study and life. And it makes me proud when I see my work take shape step by step.

By the way, our school will hold a show of the things we made next weekend. You can come and enjoy yourself here. It will be held in the school library. Here is a map for you. After you get to our school gate, just go in and you'll see a big stone. Go around it and turn left at the first crossing. Walk along the road until you cross the bridge. Then turn right at the first crossing. Follow the road, and the library is the second building on your right.
Look forward to seeing you!
Yours,
Tom
56. What could they make at first?
A. Paper-cuts. B. Toys. C. Learning tools. D. Bags.
57. How did Tom like the changes in the evening self-study class?
A. Normal. B. Helpful. C. Creative. D. Serious.
Where is the school library on the map?
A. At A. B. At B. C. At C. D. At D.
根据第二段中的“At first, we could only make things like paper-cuts”可知,起初他们做剪纸。故选 A。
根据第三段中的“But up to now, I think this is a great chance for me to slow down. It makes me more creative in both my study and life. And it makes me proud... step by step”可知,这个活动让汤姆感到放松,使他在学习和生活中变得更有创造力,还让他感到自豪,由此可推知,汤姆认为晚间自习课的变化是有用的,故选 B。
①get to our school gate
②go in and you’ll see a big stone
③Go around it and turn left at the first crossing
④Walk along the road until you cross the bridge
⑤turn right at the first crossing
⑥Follow the road, and the library is the second building on your right
B
I first heard about the animal, Pelochelys cantorii (鼋), when I visited a museum in Zhejiang. But there, I saw a big one with a broken shell (壳) on show. The museum explained that it had died after being hit by a large stone. It made me realize what great danger these animals are in.
Pelochelys cantorii is a first-class protected species(物种) in China. And it is called the "panda of the water". It lives in clear, slow-moving waters. But its number has dropped sharply because of bad human activities.
To deal with this, in 2002, Zhejiang set up a nature reserve (自然保护区) in the Oujiang River to protect them. In 2023, a lot of Pelochelys cantorii were freed back into the wild. The animal's total population has now grown to over 120.
This story taught me how important it is to protect the places where animals live. We can't save animals in danger if we don't fix their living places. Like the Pelochelys cantorii, tigers, lions and other animals have also benefited from such protection efforts. I believe saving wildlife requires the government, scientists and the public to work together.
We should work with nature, not a... it. And it's our job to protect nature and make sure animals can live better and longer.
59. What killed the Pelochelys cantorii shown in the museum?
A. A broken shell. B. A large stone. C. A dangerous animal. D. The slow-moving waters.
60. What might help increase the population of Pelochelys cantorii?
①Educational programs provided by the museum.
②The setting up of the nature reserve.
③Freeing them back into the wild.
④Fixing the living places of the dangerous animals.
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ③④ D. ②④
61. What is the proper word in the sentence "We should work with nature, not a... it."?
A. after B. around C. against D. across

根据第一段中的“I first heard about the animal, Pelochelys cantorii(鼋).... The museum explained that it had died after being hit by a large stone”可知应选 B。
根据第三段的内容“To deal with this.... set up a nature reserve(自然保护区).... In 2023, a lot of Pelochelys cantorii were freed back into the wild. The animal’s total population has now grown to over 120”可知,建立自然保护区以及把鼋放归野外有助于鼋的数量增长。故选 B。
名师碎碎念 ④中的 dangerous animals(危险的动物)≠animals in danger(处于危险中的动物,即 endangered animals),本选项属于偷换概念,考生切勿混淆。

根据最后一段中的“And it’s our job to protect nature and make sure animals can live better and longer”可知,前一句是说,我们应该与自然和谐共处,而不是要与之对抗。
