Ⅴ. 阅读理解
(2023·福建泉州·二模改编)“Grandma, I'm home!” Denzel shut the door behind him, dropped his heavy schoolbag on the sofa, and headed straight for the kitchen, as he always did after school.
“Grandma?” Denzel called, surprised she wasn't standing in the kitchen preparing dinner. “She must be upstairs,” he thought to himself, so he took an apple, and began to do his homework.
Feeling nervous, he decided to check upstairs for her. Her door was halfway open, so he quietly knocked and pushed it open. “Grandma?” Denzel said softly.
“Grandma!” Denzel shouted with fear in his voice. Denzel noticed his grandmother lying on the floor next to her bed. In no time, he ran to her side to check on her.
Just weeks before, a paramedic had visited Denzel's health class at school, and he had talked about what to do in case of an emergency(紧急情况) just like this one. Denzel remembered what he had learned and jumped into action. When his grandmother did not respond, Denzel ran to the phone and called 911.
A dispatcher(调度员) calmed Denzel and asked him to stay on the line while he waited for the paramedics to arrive. As he waited, the dispatcher gave Denzel some instructions and asked him to perform CPR(心肺复苏). Thankfully, the paramedic had taught his class how to do CPR during the class visit!
The paramedics arrived quicker than Denzel had expected, and they began taking care of his grandmother and took her to the hospital.
One of the paramedics pulled Denzel aside. “Your grandma is very lucky to have you,” she said. “You are a hero.” But Denzel didn't really feel like a hero. He just did what he needed to do.
