Can you imagine a sea of sand three times bigger than India? This is the Sahara Desert, the largest desert in the world. It covers 11 countries in North Africa and is over 9 million square kilometers. That's more than 32% of Africa.
In the Sahara, temperatures are very different during the day and at night. It is much hotter during the day than at night. During the day, the hottest time is between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., when the temperature rises to 33℃. But it is very cold at night. The coldest time is at 4 a.m., when the temperature falls to - 1℃.
How to stay alive in the Sahara Desert? Marco Rivera, our survival expert, has some tips.
First, take warm clothes and a blanket. You will need a hat, long trousers to keep you warm at night. During the day, cover your body, head and face. Clothes protect you from the sun and keep water in your body. You will also need a warm blanket at night. It can get cold very quickly.
Second, try to drink some water at least once every hour. You need your water to last as long as possible. Drink only when you need.
Third, keep your mouth closed and do not talk. When you talk, you lose water from your body.
Last, eat as little as you can, because if you eat, you will get thirsty and drink all of your water more quickly. You eat very small amounts of food and eat very slowly. You can live for three weeks with no food, but you can only live for three days without water.

How much do you know about whales, a kind of fantastic animals? They are huge, beautiful, and interesting animals on earth. Are they fish? Although they look like fish and their homes are in the sea, they aren't fish. Let's learn more about them.
It's amazing to think how big whales are. Blue whales are the largest among all kinds of whales. They are also the biggest animals on earth. Some of them are more than 33 meters long, and each of them weighs about 150—180 tons. A blue whale is even heavier than 24 elephants. A new baby blue whale weighs as much as a big elephant. The blue whale also has the largest heart in the world. It can be as heavy as 180 kg.
Whales feed on sea life. Some whales eat seals and fish. Some eat plants. One interesting fact is that some whales have teeth, while others don't. Another interesting fact is that whales must come to the surface(表面)of the water to breathe. So they often jump out of the water.
Beaches are not safe places for them. They need to stay in the sea. For whales, the mistake of landing on beaches is dangerous. They may lose their lives.
Some kinds of whales are in danger because people catch them for meat, fat, and oil. Whale parts are sold to make things like candles and soap. We should try our best to protect whales. Stopping the killing of whales and reducing ocean pollution are two useful ways to protect them. When seeing a whale on the beach, try to save it.
