The Chinese crested tern is a type of seabird. The bird is about 30—40 cm long, with a black crown, gray wings and a white body. They live mainly on small fish. 1. ________ According to a report, there are only about 150 Chinese crested terns all over the world.
The first record of the bird was in Indonesia in 1861. 2. ________ Scientists once believed that this type of bird may die out. Amazingly, over 60 years later, some birdwatchers saw many Chinese crested terns in Fujian and Zhejiang.
Scientists working in a nature reserve in Zhejiang wanted those birds to stay there. They built some artificial nests(人工鸟巢). They even put some hand - made birds of the same size as Chinese crested terns there. 3. ________ More and more Chinese crested terns flew to the islands and laid their eggs.
Chinese crested terns lay eggs as the weather gets warmer, usually between April and August. 4. ________ During their stay in Zhejiang, scientists and volunteers from a Chinese crested tern protection project do a lot of work. They record the information of every bird on the islands. They help them lay eggs safely. 5. ________

Ⅱ. 濒危动物 第二位参赛者 Li Wei 给我们介绍了有关多种濒危动物保护的知识,人们对于动物的伤害导致它们危在旦夕,让我们一起来学习一下吧!
Ten million reptiles(爬行动物),such as snakes, crocodiles, turtles are killed every year. Their skin(皮肤) is used to make fashion items, like handbags and shoes.
☆ The whales are in danger because man kills them for their meat and oil.
☆Orangutans(红毛猩猩) live in rainforests. They want to live in peace, but people are cutting down the trees for wood and farming. This is a big problem because the trees are the orangutans' homes. They are very difficult to find and study because they are shy animals. They are also our cousins!
☆There isn't enough bamboo for pandas to eat because man has cut down nearly half the bamboo forests. Research has shown that there are only about 1,900 pandas in the wild world. Most of them live in China.
☆Some people take the turtles' eggs to eat. The skins of the turtles are used to make some jewelry.
☆In the Far East, rhinoceros' horns(角) are used to make medicines. They are also used to make ornaments(饰品).
☆There are only about 2,500 manatees in the US. They are endangered because some of the swamps(沼泽) have become polluted. Also, there sometimes isn't enough food for all of them.
So what should you do to protect them?
