A new documentary(纪录片) called Silver Surfers(《银色冲浪者》) has come out recently. It shows the encouraging story of a group of teens helping old people to improve their lives by teaching _1_ how to use the Internet.
Rosemary Raynes, the documentary filmmaker, got the _2_ for the film while talking to her sisters Poppy and Amy about a project(项目) they started several years ago in Kingston, Canada. The two teenagers and a group of friends helped the old to feel _3_ to other people by using the Internet.
They started the project after seeing how the Internet had _4_ their own grandparents' lives. Their grandparents could use the Internet in a simple way, but wanted to be more _5_. After the two girls had given them a few _6_, they felt comfortable using the computer, and became interested in online chatting and sending e-mails. The two _7_ were so encouraged by the success that they got several of their friends to _8_ them. Together, they started to visit an old people's home. Many of the people there couldn't even turn on a computer without help, _9_ the young people were surprised by how much they had learned after only a few lessons.
It's interesting to see that the silver surfers in the documentary all had very _10_ interests. Some of them wanted to _11_ with family members who had lived in countries as far away as Australia. Others were excited to get ideas for traveling, learning how to play music or cooking.
The _12_ of the project were amazing: 89 - year - old Sheila, together with a friend, gave guided cooking lessons online; 93 - year - old Marilyn succeeded in making a rap video; Albert, 89, learned how to find old friends, and got in touch again with people he hadn't seen for long.
The documentary has received great _13_ in several countries, and a number of follow - up projects have started. They all hope to help old people see how _14_ can improve their life and help them stay in touch with others—_15_ the wonderful project started by two teenage girls.
