Citywalk might be a great choice to learn about a city. Instead of simply walking around, citywalkers follow certain routes(路线) on different themes. Along the way, they observe(观察), take photos, listen to the guide and take part in fun activities.
The idea of citywalk is growing in China. It’s one of the top 10 popular lifestyle trends released by a lifestyle platform.
Xiao Xiao, 30, the founder of Jiuer Studio, a citywalk organization in Changsha, Hunan Province, has seen the trend. More than 3,000 people have taken part in her studio’s citywalk activities since 2019. “More people, especially locals, are getting interested in this,” she said. Her studio offers over 30 citywalk routes with themes like old buildings, films, food and communities.
In her eyes, the charm(魅力) of citywalk can be seen in two ways. “For travellers, it allows them to deeply explore a city. For locals, it’s a good chance to see something they might have ignored(忽略),”Xiao said.
Wang Yixuan, 24, grew up in Changsha. Thanks to citywalk, she has visited places that she heard about before but had never been to. She walked to the old site(遗址) of Xiaoxiang Film Group and an abandoned railway running through the city. As the guide introduced the history of these sites, she knew more about the city’s past.
Citywalk is not just a way to travel but can be part of our daily lives. “It is a lifestyle, an attitude that everyone can try,”Xiao said. “Just start to observe everything around you whenever you walk, from your school or company to your home. You’ll always find something surprising.”
