南瓜节之吉尼斯纪录
How many pumpkins does it take to set a world record? Well, it depends on what you do with them. But if you want to build the world's largest pumpkin mosaic (镶嵌图案), it turns out you need about 10,000 of them.
Sunnyfields Farm—a family-owned farm in Southampton, about 100 kilometers southwest of London—has now set that Guinness World Record with a mosaic made from more than 10,000 pumpkins and squashes (南瓜小果).
The mosaic is just over 193 square meters in size—almost as big as a tennis court. It has to be at least 100 square meters in size to set the record.
The record was set by the Nelson family who owns the farm. Sunnyfields Farm is a heaven for children and those nature-lovers. Today, many local families have created the tradition of visiting the farm every year. "We have been farming for over 30 years," the founding couple explained, "mainly organic (有机的) vegetables!" Their son, Tom, has also been helping at the family's farm since 2019.
"It took a team of 10 people five hours to build, throwing the pumpkins to each other—it is not a time to get distracted! If you do, you can get a surprise," the family explained.
The orange and white parts were done with orange and white pumpkins, while the light blue and dark green parts were done with two different types of squashes.
Guinness World Records certified the record on October 18, about a week after certifying another pumpkin record—the world's heaviest pumpkin. That one was certified in California, with a pumpkin weighing almost 1,250 kilograms! This is always a busy time of year for fruit and vegetable records.
