Joana lives in San Francisco, California and Mikaela lives in Rock Springs, Wyoming. The two friends met at Udaleku. Udaleku is a two-week Basque summer camp. For the two girls, that's made possible by going to Udaleku. They may live in 1. different states, but the friendship they've formed at camp has led to them visiting each other's home.
Why did you want to take part in Udaleku?
Mikaela: I had heard about the camp through my parents and through other kids in my local Basque club. It seemed like a simple 2. decision to at least try it out.

Joana: I enjoyed all the activities. They were different from year to year, so there was always something new to learn. I always really enjoyed the dance. I've been part of the Basque dance group in San Francisco since I was six, and I like learning new dances.
