So，how do people celebrate this festival? It might surprise you to know that they mainly throw pancakes! We all know Nu Wa is a goddess famous for repairing the sky. In the past，people thought the sky was broken when it rained. Nu Wa appeared to fix the problem. Later people had a similar fear when the rain beat heavily against their houses. They thought throwing pancakes onto the roof(屋顶) could stop the “god of rain” from breaking the houses. Later，people kept the tradition. Now people are very strict with pancakes. The rounder and thinner，the better. Also，women also put needles(针) in the pancakes. It shouldn't be surprising because needles have been a symbol of Nu Wa fixing the broken sky. Of course，there are other activities. People usually go outside to shoot. It's not about killing animals. However，not many people know or celebrate the festival these days. Maybe it's because people can't shoot in the city，or they may hurt others and even get caught by the police. It's also not good for people to waste food. Maybe the buildings are so tall that pancakes can hardly reach the roofs. Who knows?
