B
The sky was starting to turn dark. Mark and his father were worried because they got lost in the forest. It was their first time to hike through that area.
Again, Mark’s father stopped and took out the map and compass(指南针) from his backpack. “I think they will be useful this time,” he said. It was hard to see in the dark. Mark took out his flashlight and shone it on the map. “ We should head south, Dad,” Mark said. After making sure which direction to go in, they felt less worried. When Mark’s father took his first step, he suddenly lost his balance(平衡) and fell over. “ Dad! Are you OK?” Mark shouted. He quickly reached out his hand to his father. Luckily, his father held on to the branch (树枝) of a tree with his other hand. However, Mark’s father lost the map and compass. That made it difficult for them to find their way out.
Mark and his father had no choice but to put up a tent near a river to spend the night. When night fell, the stars came out, lighting up the whole sky. Suddenly, an idea came to Mark’s mind. “ Why not use the stars to find our way?” he said. “ You are such a clever boy. We are sure to return safely,” Mark’s father said. If they could find the North Star, they could find out which direction was north. After Mark picked it out, they made their way out of the forest.
Mark finally knew that the stars in the night sky are more than just pretty lights. They are a life-saving resource for those who get lost and are in need of guidance.
