4. Read the passage and complete the table below.
Safety First!
In many ways, extreme sports are just like other sports. They involve lots of movement. They’re lots of fun, and they’re good for your health. Extreme sports usually require much more energy, which many people say is great for reducing stress and increasing confidence.
Of course, extreme sports are called “extreme” because they are more dangerous than regular sports. This means that they’re not for everyone, and anyone trying an extreme sport should always follow the safety requirements. Extreme sports can range from common sports like skateboarding and inline skating to more dangerous sports like rock climbing and skydiving.
If you aren’t careful when doing extreme sports, you could hurt yourself, and in the really extreme sports, you could even die. But there are lots of ways to keep safe. Protect your body from injury by warming up your muscles before you begin. And if you’re doing an outdoor sport, you should also check the weather conditions. Try to do the sport with a partner, and never try anything you are not sure of.
Protective gear (保护装备) plays a large role in the safety of extreme sports. People are more likely to fall, often onto their knees and elbows. For this reason, pads (衬垫) are a must. Without them, you could break your bones or badly bruise (撞伤) your body. It is also often essential to wear a helmet (头盔) to protect your head and goggles (护目镜) to protect your eyes. Whilst all this gear cannot 100 percent guarantee your safety, it offers great protection.
In closing, extreme sports can be really fun, but they must always be paired with extreme safety. Never try to save money or face by not wearing the protective gear. You only have one body and you should look after it!
