3. Read the passage and complete the exercises.
(Aceh, Indonesia) It was a very quiet morning on 26 December 2004. The weather was lovely along the coast, and tourists were lying on the sand or resting under the trees by their hotels. Children ran about happily, exploring the beach’s many small pools. It seemed like a normal, happy day at the beach, but that was soon to change. Suddenly, a change in the sea began to happen from far away. It seemed like a wall, not of bricks but of water. This wall came nearer and nearer very fast. Many did not notice the tsunami before it was too late. The swift wall of sea quickly caught them, picking them up and throwing them around under the water.
At the time, I was staying in a hotel nearby with my three children. Two of my children were playing on the beach, and I had taken my youngest child back to the hotel for a midday nap. About half an hour later, I heard a terrible noise below my window. It sounded very frightening, and it was mixed with cries of terror. I looked out. The wall of sea was about to crash into the garden of the hotel. People were running in all directions, but the water was so high and so strong that they had no chance of escape. I had left my other two children on the beach. Where were they now? Were they safe?
I quickly rushed to the beach, but there was no sign of them. Suddenly, I heard a voice cry out, “Mummy!” I turned round and there was my daughter holding her brother’s hand. They were both safe! It was only later that I found out what had happened. She had just learnt about tsunamis in a science lesson. When she had seen the sea acting strangely, she had taken her brother back to the hotel to play. I was so grateful to her school and my daughter’s good sense!

根据第一段中的“Suddenly, a change in the sea began to happen from far away. It seemed like a wall, not of bricks but of water.”
根据第一段中的“This wall came nearer and nearer very fast. Many did not notice it until a tsunami before it was too late.”
根据第二段中画线词所在句子“It sounded very frightening, and it was mixed with cries of terror.”
根据最后一段中的“She had just learnt about tsunamis in a science lesson. When she had seen the sea acting strangely, she had taken her brother back to the hotel to play.”
(5) One possible version:
The passage starts by describing the beginning of a tsunami and the effect it had on the people on the beach. Then the writer talks about how she was at her hotel when it happened, and how she was really worried about her children who were on the beach. Fortunately, one of the children had learnt about tsunamis in a science class and so she was able to return to the hotel with her brother before the tsunami hit.
