Ricky Smith lives in Chicago, the US. He works as a school bus driver in his free time. Last winter, he became a great hero for possibly saving the lives of 20 children. It was all because of a smart decision he made.
It was an unforgettable late afternoon for Ricky and all the children. He drove 20 students home. Suddenly, there was something wrong with the school bus. It lost power but thankfully, Ricky was able to stop the bus by the side of the road. Seeing that the school bus was not completely off the road, Ricky felt a need to do more to keep the students away from danger. So he guided(指引) the students to get off the bus and took them to a safe place nearby.
“It was a human instinct(本能) to get far away from the bus and wait on the grass until help came,” Ricky said. He then made calls and asked the parents to pick up their kids. Just about five minutes after they got off the bus, something terrible happened. A big truck passed too close and hit the bus! The accident caused serious damage(破坏) to the bus. Thanks to Ricky’s decision to make the kids get off the school bus in time, none of them were injured.
Parents called Ricky a hero for his smart decision. But Ricky said it was just part of his job. “My job is to take care of these young students. I’ll do whatever it takes to take care of them.”
