In January 2025, five students from Hangzhou No. 14 High School saw their proposal presented at Zhejiang's provincial two sessions(两会). Their teacher Chen Limin, a CPPCC(中国人民政治协商会议) member, shared their plan to improve home care for elderly people. The idea came from 18-year-old Ma Zhenhan and his teammates in the mock CPPCC club(模拟政协社团).
"We noticed many local seniors needed help but didn't know how to get it," said Ma. The team surveyed over 1,000 elderly residents and found two main problems: limited service options and a lack of personalized care. For example, some seniors wanted door-to-door services like haircuts, while others preferred social activities.
To solve these issues, the students studied elderly care laws and consulted civil affairs experts. With teachers' guidance, they developed solutions including a large online database listing all available services with ratings, regular quality checks, and easy-to-use smart devices for seniors.
Their work won first place in the 2024 Hangzhou Student Mock CPPCC Competition. "This experience taught me teamwork and how democracy turns ideas into action," Ma said.
As their proposal stated: Every senior deserves care that fits their needs. By combining research with creativity, these young people proved that teenagers could contribute to solving community problems.
