Ⅲ 阅读理解
语篇类型:记叙文 主题:人与社会(跨艺术形式的体验) 难度: 词数:约 340 用时:8 分钟
When people know that I work as a film and TV extra(临时演员), they always ask me the same questions, "Emily, is it easy to get work? Isn't it boring? Do you meet famous actors? Does it pay well?" I am plain because they are true. "Yes, sometimes, once in a while, and kind of. " In fact, the life of an extra is both more interesting and more boring than they might imagine. Only those who experience it know the truth.
Unlike many other extras, I'm a trained actress. I can get some speaking roles. But work can be hard to get if you're not a great star. Excellent stars can get more jobs and make more money. Directors just know about excellent stars.
Sometimes being an extra is a "hurry up and wait" job. In my first extra role, I waited for hours for the scenes(场) to be shot. In the first scene, I was one of a group of office workers who came out of a building. At the same time, two cars crashed on the street. One of the cars was on fire. Then we ran into the building. To get the best scene, we went in and out of the building about fifty times. We tried to act frightened by an accident which was not real. In the second scene, we had lunch, changed clothes and spent the afternoon as customers in a store. It sounded easy, but it took us a lot of time.
It may sound like I don't enjoy the work, but I do. Being part of the background is challenging, and being on a film or a TV show is always wonderful. A lot of famous actors don't even pay attention to the extras, but the extras make the job a lot of fun for everyone. As for the money, it's nothing compared to what the big actors make, but it is enough for me. I need to work for a living, and the job is right for me.
