五、阅读理解。[2024石家庄长安一模]
人与自我——生活与学习中的困难、问题和解决方式
Hi, I’m David House, a teenage writer from the UK. Here, I help solve teenage readers’ problems. I hope I can help with yours.
Hi David,
My friend often wants to hang out with me at school and gets upset when I don’t want to play with her. I need more time to study for a coming exam, and I’m not sure how to deal with the situation.
Monster
Hi Monster,
It’s a difficult situation but you need to stand your ground and stick to your studies.
Your friend sounds a bit lonely, which is hard to deal with. Perhaps one way is to suggest that you both study together if possible. You can say to her that if she wants to hang out, it will be to study, with very little talking. Sometimes this can help both people, as it can be good and helpful to study together as long as you can stay focused.
But if this doesn’t work for you, it’s perfectly OK to tell the friend no. You need your study time, especially with an exam coming up. Of course, you can tell the friend this in a kind way, while still being strong and sticking to your ideas. It’s good to be understanding and kind to others. But you don’t need to give up your own progress.
David
1. What is Monster’s problem?
A. He gets upset easily.
B. He feels lonely at school.
C. His friend dislikes studying.
D. He wants to study for an exam instead of hanging out.
2. According to David, what should Monster do if his friend wants to hang out?
A. Always refuse his friend.
B. Agree to go and give up study plans.
C. Suggest studying together with very little talking.
D. Tell the friend to find someone else to play with.
3. What should Monster do if David’s advice doesn’t work?
A. Just stick to his own ideas.
B. Be kind to his friend.
C. Give up his own progress.
D. Fight with his friend.

六、阅读表达。[2024山东德州一模改编]
人与自我——零花钱的使用,合理消费,节约意识
How much pocket money do you get from your parents every month? What do you often do with your money?
We asked three British middle school students for their opinions on pocket money.
Ruth Sawyers
I get 5 pounds every week from my parents. I usually save 1.5 pounds and spend the rest.
The two things I usually like to buy with my pocket money are storybooks and LEGO (乐高). I don’t really think about getting more pocket money. And I even don’t talk about pocket money with my friends at school. If some people’s parents give them too much pocket money, other children might get jealous (妒忌的). It’s important not to show off what you’ve got.
Maya Varsani
I get 6 pounds from my mum and 8 pounds from my dad every month. I try to save and buy presents for my family. Last year, I bought my mum a lipstick (口红) for Mother’s Day, which cost 9.5 pounds.
Jimmy Segalow
My mum gives me 10 pounds a week. She says I can either spend it in the school canteen (餐厅) or she will make me packed lunches, then I can spend the 10 pounds on whatever I want.
I like sports shoes. If they cost 50 pounds and I only have 40 pounds, my mum might give me an extra (额外的) 10 pounds. But I have to do some housework instead.
I know that some parents can’t afford to give their children much pocket money. So I try not to talk about my pocket money at school.
