五、阅读理解。[2024石家庄十八县(市、区)模拟]
人与社会——志愿服务与公共服务
Orion Jean is a boy from Fort Worth, Texas. He is making a difference in the world with his acts of kindness. And these acts may change the lives of people he has helped.
It all began after a student kindness competition last year where he gave encouraging words to share about taking the first step. “Kindness is a virtue( 美德) we can all have, if we are willing to,” he said. “So why not start today? Right now it’s what we need more than ever.”
With the $500 prize money he won, Orion gave away toys to a local children’s hospital. Next, he helped prepare 100,000 meals for families in Texas. And now he wants to give books to the kids who may not have them and plans to collect 500,000 books for his initiative named “Race to Kindness”.
Kherri Jean, Orion’s mother, wrote on her Facebook page on July 31 that Orion had already collected 120,000 books. “Today was one of my favorite days!” she said. “We had a ‘Race to Kindness’ free book fair for children and their parents. It was so great to see kids looking for books they like and taking them home!”
And even if he hasn’t met the goal of 500,000 books, Orion has done something excellent. “It’s all about my moral( 道德上的) responsibility to help people,” Orion said. “You know, it’s my responsibility to be able to see these people who need help know that I can help them.”

六、阅读表达。[2024山东德州二模改编]
人与自我——自信乐观,悦纳自我,有同理心
“I wish I had straight hair.” “I’d like to be taller.” Sometimes, we may want to look a bit more like someone else. However, the pictures we see on TV and social media can give us improper ideas about how our bodies “should” look. The truth is that everybody is different—and that’s a good thing. Accepting and feeling good about our bodies is really important for our self - confidence (自信).
If you feel positive (积极的) about your body, you are more likely to take care of it well. Research has even shown that you are more likely to take part in activities and perform well in school. However, feeling worried about your body could make you do less well at school and even feel down. The cost of trying to achieve the “perfect” look is high. If you spend a lot of time on it, you will have less time to spend with friends and make important memories.
It’s important to remember that everybody is different. To develop a positive body image (形象), you should try to talk positively about your own body and other people’s bodies. Try not to pay too much attention to your look. Instead, think about what your body does for you. And you also should treat your body well by eating different kinds of food, doing sports and getting enough sleep. Remember that you are more than how you look.
