[2024包头一中高一期中]High school began with meeting new friends, which was the most exciting part of that period. However, I noticed the difference between high school and middle school right away since students around me were trying their best to get good grades. As for me, I saw these years as our last chance to spend time together as a group.
It was surprising for me to find out that my friends, including my best friend, were no longer willing to meet very often after school. This made me realize that perhaps I failed to understand the true meaning of these final years. I should state that it became especially clear after I talked to my best friend. He told me that he was really worried because I seemed to have no plans when it came to preparing for college. To be completely honest, he was right.
Luckily, my best friend was wise and able to explain his point of view to me. Also, he offered to spend time studying with me to make sure I did not miss out on anything meaningful from the textbook and getting me ready for the test. This was surprising for me since I was confident that activities like reading textbooks could not be enjoyable. I was wrong, and this challenge taught me that having fun in high school does not just mean going to parties or spending time in cafes. Instead, you can have an enjoyable experience that will also be good for your future.
I am glad that I was able to learn from this situation. After some time had passed, I understood and was able to change my behavior and attitude toward studying in high school just in time. Now, I am studying harder to get more knowledge and try to understand which subjects I am most interested in to find out what I want to study in the future.

A. They liked to stay together.
B. They preferred to study in groups.
C. They were busy meeting new friends.
D. They were working on improving test scores.
58. What does the underlined word "This" in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Friends' not meeting like before.
B. Being worried by a close friend.
C. Failing to fit in with the final years.
D. Having no plans for entering college.
59. What lesson did the author learn from studying with his best friend?
A. Students should make study enjoyable.
B. He should do activities good for the future.
C. Having a smart friend is important in school.
D. Being confident is helpful in getting great grades.
60. What does the author want to share in the text?
A. His favorite subject.
B. His friendship.
C. His high school challenges.

答案:
However, I noticed the difference... since students around me were trying their best to get good grades"可知,作者立刻注意到高中与初中的不同,是因为他周围的学生都在尽最大努力取得好成绩。
As for me, I saw these years as our last chance to spend time together as a group"可知,作者认为高中这几年是自己和朋友们最后一次作为一个集体在一起的机会。 It was surprising... true meaning of these final years"可知,作者惊讶地发现,他的朋友们,包括最好的朋友,都不再愿意在放学后经常见面了。
根据第三段中的"he offered to spend time studying with me... that will also be good for your future"可知,作者最好的朋友提出花时间和作者一起学习以确保作者不会错过课本上任何有意义的内容,并帮作者准备考试。 故作者与朋友一起学习的经历让他认识到自己应该做一些对自己未来有益的活动,与上文中的"studying with me... getting me ready for the test"对应。
