(2025·河南省九校联盟月考) Sarah Todd Hammer was attending a dancing class in April 2010 when she experienced a sudden head and neck ache that she couldn't shake. Within minutes, the pain was getting so worse that she started crying, and at the same time she realized that her arms and hands were unable to move.
While without doubt terrified out of her wits, Hammer had no idea what was happening and there was no way of knowing she was experiencing a life - changing event. She was taken to the nearest children's hospital. Later, she was told that she developed spinal cord injuries
"After two months, I was able to walk out of the hospital with help. From there, I did physical and occupational therapy (职业疗法) for a few hours a week," Hammer said. Although she had managed to get some movement, Hammer explained that she couldn't move her left hand at all, and her right hand was very weak.
However, Hammer fought hard to get back into dancing. Despite trying her hardest, she said the studio didn't support her, often placing her in the back. From then on, she noticed a real change in her mind—no longer did she want to dance perfectly; instead, she wanted to make people know something. She started writing about her story and speaking publicly about disability (残障).
Hammer's first book was finished when she was just 11 years old, her second when she turned 14, and the third aged 17. But her work didn't stop there. She started a student organization that worked for disabled students on college campus. She even built an online community of like - minded people. Now, she's writing her fourth book.
Hammer said, "I am proud to be a disabled person, and I refer to myself as disabled rather than a person with a disability. Sure, there are challenges that come with being disabled, but that doesn't mean the disability experience can't be beautiful at the same time."

Sarah Todd Hammer was attending a dancing class in April 2010 when she experienced a sudden head and neck ache that she couldn't shake"可知,Hammer 在舞蹈课上突然感到头和脖子剧烈疼痛。
Within minutes, the pain was getting so worse that... her arms and hands were unable to move"可推知,Hammer 的头和脖子剧痛难忍,胳膊和手无法动弹,在这种情况下,她内心肯定是害怕的,因此画线短语与 fearful 的意思最接近。
根据"the studio didn't support her, often placing her in the back"及"she wanted to make people know something. She started writing about her story and speaking publicly about disability(残障)"可知,在舞蹈班上遭受冷遇后,Hammer 决定用文字讲述自己的经历,唤起人们对残障人士的关注。
