Ⅲ. 短文阅读
Grandpa liked to tell stories about his childhood, especially on the car ride to the small seaport town in California where our family would go on vacation. We'd catch crabs(螃蟹) on the old pier(码头). During the car ride, my little brother would sometimes have a short sleep. But not me. I would look out of the window and listen to Grandpa's stories.
My grandpa was born in a little bamboo house on Cebu Island in the Philippines. He'd tell the story about how his father had built the little bamboo house as a wedding(婚礼) gift for his wife. Grandpa had loved living there.
When we arrived at the ocean, my brother and cousins would go off playing around. But I would sit on the pier and watch Grandpa catching crabs. Before long, inside his trap(陷阱) was a huge catch of crabs—so many crabs, more than our family could ever eat. How happy Grandpa looked!
Then my father and uncles would help him put the goods(物品) in the back of our car. Before leaving the sea behind for the day, Grandpa kept on walking one last time on the water's shore(岸).
Everyone else was too tired or too cold to put their feet into the water. But not me. This was the best part of the day. The ocean water moved around my feet. We laughed and watched the sun fall to the rim of the sea.
