Last night was amazing! I saw the total lunar eclipse(月全食)— also called a “Blood Moon”.I
learned about it in science class, but seeing it with my own eyes was more wonderful!
My family and I drove to the top of a mountain after dinner. Far from the city, it
was a quiet place for us to enjoy the special sight. Also, with not many lights
around, we could see it better. We brought snacks, warm clothes, and a small
telescope there.
At around 10 p.m., the moon started to dark. But I could still see the round moon. At about
10:30 p.m., I could see the moon wasn't round. I thought someone ate part of it. At the same time,
the part of the moon in the Earth's shadow(地球的阴影) turned red. At around 1l p.m., the moon
was all in the Earth's shadow and the total eclipse happened. I could still see the moon, but in a
special red colour! At that time,I thought the special moon was the eye of a huge genie outside the
Earth. It was both scary and exciting! At around 1l:30 p.m., the moon started to get out of the
Earth's shadow.
When the eclipse was over, it was already about l a.m.Though it was late,I wasn't sleepy at all.I
went back home and searched online for why the moon turned that colour and the explanation really
interested me. Nature is such a great artist!
Looking at the photos of “Blood Moon” made me realize how amazing our universe(宇宙) is.
Maybe one day, I will fly to get close to the stars!
