D
Lots of famous films are being remade at the moment.
If you go to the cinema this summer, it's likely that at least one of the films on offer will be a remake. In fact, the top five films that made the most money at the global box office this year are all either remakes or follow-ups. So are there too many remakes?
Some people think there's no need to make a film again if it already exists. Instead of remakes, people should simply watch, or rewatch, the original. After all, the reason why many films get remade is that the original versions were so popular in the first place — it's better to treasure a classic film rather than try to recreate it. If too many films are remade, it means not enough time is being spent on coming up with new and exciting ideas. Besides, making a film again can be disrespectful to the people who made the first one, particularly if the remake is badly done. A remake can also ruin people's memories of the original. It's best to focus on making something brand new; remakes are unoriginal, boring and unnecessary.
Others think just because a film has already been made, it doesn't mean that it can't be improved. Sometimes a remake is better than the original. New technology can give filmmakers the chance to do things that weren't possible in the first film. What's more, although the original films will always exist, they were made at a different time; it's nice to make a modern version of an old story that a new audience can appreciate and relate to. Shakespeare's plays are performed again and again by different actors, so why shouldn't something similar happen with films? Anyway, the success of remakes at the box office shows that people enjoy watching them — it's reasonable enough to keep on making more of them.
32. What's debated in the text?
A. Whether remakes are necessary.
B. Why people like remakes.
C. How remakes get success.
D. What films need to be remade.
33. Which of the following is a reason that films shouldn't be remade?
A. Original versions are more interesting.
B. Bad remakes show no respect for the first makers.
C. Original versions have a good influence on people.
D. Remakes make little money at the box office.
34. Why are Shakespeare's plays mentioned?
A. To prove remakes are reasonable.
B. To show Shakespeare's plays are very popular.
C. To show Shakespeare's plays need to be improved.
D. To prove technology is very useful for remaking films.
35. How does the author develop the text mainly?
A. By listing facts.
B. By giving examples.
C. By analysing numbers.
D. By contrasting opinions.
