B(2025·天台)
Most people love animals. Animals often appear in children’s books and TV shows. Many teenagers and old people keep animals, such as cats and dogs,as pets. The love for animals may be why most people enjoy going to zoos and animal shows.
In 1500 BC,a ruler(统治者)in Egypt started the first zoo. She bought the animals from Africa. Buying animals was a way for rulers to show they had lots of money. Animal shows started much later in the 1800s. But do you know how the life of animals in the early zoos and animal shows was? Workers in the zoo didn’t care about them. Often they didn’t have much food to eat. Sometimes they were hit by kids.
These days, zoos are still for fun,but they also try to protect animals and teach people as well. Both zoos and animal shows must follow rules. People must provide animals with a clean place, food, water, and health care. In this way,the rules help protect the animals.
Some people think the rules are not enough. They want to do more to protect the animals they love. For example, people don’t agree with the use of killer whales(虎鲸)in shows at Sea World. Many people thought the big killer whales did not have enough space in the park’s small pools. They also thought that the animals were treated badly. As a result,Sea World decided to end all killer whale shows.
While enjoying animals, people also try to protect them. That’s good for both animals and people.
