"You are going to see the largest wild seed bank(野生种子库) in the world," said Sharon Balding, the Seed Collections Manager(采集经理) at the Millennium Seed Bank (MSB), in Sussex, UK. "Inside, there are over 39,000 different kinds of seeds from more than 100 countries. " She turned a key, and the heavy door of a room slowly opened.

"We keep a close eye on it 24 hours a day," Sharon said. Inside, the seeds are in rows(排) of glasses. They are placed with different numbers, not plant names. "This is for safety," Sharon added. "If someone takes away the seeds, he won't know what they are!" So is the collection worth a lot of money? "Of course!" said Sharon. "These seeds are very important to our future life. Without them, we might lose important things, like food and medicine. "
Some of the seeds here made a difference in saving some special plants. For example, in early 2020, a big fire in Australia burned down the home of a plant. The MSB sent 250 seeds to help it grow again in the wild.
Sadly, today, as the weather around the world gets warmer, it is harder for some plants to live. "We are looking for and studying trees from other parts of the world," said Owen Blake from the UK Tree Seed Collecting Team. "Some of these trees might grow well in the warmer UK. "
Now the scientists are working hard to solve our planet's problems!
