Ⅰ. 阅读理解【主题:人与社会 夜猫子】
①If you like to go to bed and get up late—a sleep type known as being a night owl(夜猫子)—you may be at a higher risk (风险) for type 2 diabetes(糖尿病) and heart disease(心脏病), a new study found.
② In a study published Monday in Experimental Physiology, scientists from Rutgers University divided 51 people into morning or evening types, based on their sleeping habits. During the study, these people ate the same food while their activities were monitored (监测) for a week.
③To compare the two types, the research team measured each person’s weight, health level and level of insulin (胰岛素). In addition, researchers tried to find out where each person got the energy they needed.
④The result shows evening types usually have worse living habits than early birds. Night owls usually move less, have lower health levels and burn less fat. Besides, they smoke and drink more, and they are more likely to start working without eating breakfast and eat more in the day.
⑤Because of their bad living habits, evening types have higher body fat in the stomach, which is believed to be worse for health. And they need more insulin to provide the energy they need every day.
⑥Steven Malin, an associate professor at Rutgers University, points out that sleep types can make a difference to students’ school performance, social ability and living habits. Early birds are more likely to perform better in school, and are more active during the day. Therefore, he suggests that everyone should develop a healthy sleeping habit before it’s too late.
