Born in the coldest city in the world, Yakutsk in Siberia, Alex developed an interest in photography from an early age. When he was old enough to travel, he packed his bag and began his journey.
Alex began travelling as a travel photographer, taking photos of nature. He said, “While travelling, I realised people were the most interesting part of my experience. I was most interested in people living in faraway places, where the traditional lifestyle and ancient culture remained untouched by the outside world.”
Since then, Alex has begun a project called The World in Faces. He has travelled to places unknown to the outside world, where the population of the locals is down to their last few hundred. He wants to record their stories before it's too late. Alex feels globalisation is causing many cultures to disappear. “Without cultural diversity, our world will become faceless,” he explained.
This project is also important to Alex because he wants to share the idea that we are all humans. He explains, “People should be treated with respect, regardless of their backgrounds. Our differences should be celebrated, not hated.”
