题目:气泡膜的发明 体裁:说明文 难度:4星 建议用时:7分钟 正确率:/4
Bubble wrap(气泡膜)is a packing material made from plastic that is filled with air bubbles. The air bubbles protect fragile(易碎的)things during transportation(运输).
Bubble wrap was invented by two engineers. They first tried to sell it as a kind of wallpaper, but it didn’t sell well. After that, they tried to sell their invention as a material for homes and greenhouses to keep warm. This also failed.
The invention took off thanks to computer company IBM. When IBM started transporting computers, they needed something to protect the computers. Bubble wrap was a much better choice than anything else on the market. So IBM started packing its computers in the material. More companies soon followed the example.
While bubble wrap is best known as a packing material, it has many other uses as well. For example, it can actually be used as insulation(隔热材料)for windows since it’s a light material that keeps heat well. It can be used as a painting tool to draw special pictures. Most people also know bubble wrap’s most popular use:popping it.
Research on popping bubble wrap has shown that it cuts down stress, but scientists are not completely sure why that is. The most likely explanation is that it is a repeated action without a certain goal or result. It is meaningless, but it provides the satisfaction of a familiar sound and feeling whenever someone pops one of the bubbles.
Given bubble wrap’s many uses, there’s no surprise that it has been popular for so long.
