F(2024·江苏盐城三模)
Our house was across the street from a big hospital, so we rented(租) our empty upstairs. rooms to outpatients(门诊病人). One evening, there was a 1 at the door. I opened it and saw a truly sick-looking old man.
His face looked terrible—it was swollen(肿胀的) and red. Yet his voice was 2 . He told me that he came for treatment and that he'd been looking for a spare room since noon, but no one would give him one because of 3 .
For a moment I said nothing but he said he would be 4 to just sleep in the hallway. I agreed.
The old man had a huge heart inside his tiny body. He told me that he fished for a living to 5 his daughter, her five children and her disabled husband.
He didn't complain while telling 6 his story. He was so grateful that he didn't feel any 7 from his disease which was seemingly a form of skin cancer.
The next morning, he said, "Can I come back and stay the 8 time I need treatment?" I told him he was welcome to come again.
On his next trip, as a 9 , he brought a big fish and some large oysters(牡蛎). In the years when he stayed with us, there was 10 a time when he did not bring us gifts like these.
My neighbour 11 me that I could lose some renters by putting up the old man after he left the first morning.
Maybe we did 12 renters once or twice. But if they had known him, perhaps their illnesses would have been 13 to bear(忍受). I know our family always will be 14 to have known him. From him, we learnt 15 it was to accept the bad without complaint and the good with gratitude(谢意).

答案:
1. A 【点拨】根据“I opened it and saw a truly sick-looking old man.” 故选 A。
2. D 【点拨】根据“His face looked terrible—it was swollen(肿胀的)and red.”
3. B 【点拨】根据“His face looked terrible—it was swollen(肿胀的)and red.”
4. A 【点拨】根据上文“he'd been looking for a spare room since noon”和“just sleep in the hallway”可知这个病人从中午开始就一直找住的地方,但是没人愿意收留他。 故选 A。
5. C 【点拨】根据“fished for a living”和“his daughter, her five children and her disabled husband”可知这个病人以捕鱼为生,并且养活他女儿一家。故选 C。
6. C 【点拨】根据上文“He told me that he fished for a living to support his daughter, her five children and her disabled husband.”
7. C 【点拨】根据“He was so grateful that he didn't feel any 7 from his disease”可知老人心态好,所以他感觉不到疾病带来的疼痛,pain 符合题意。故选 C。
8. B 【点拨】根据“I told him he was welcome to come again.” the next time 下一次。故选 B。
9. A 【点拨】根据“there was 10 a time when he did not bring us gifts like these”可知他每次都给“我们”带这些“礼物”。故选 A。
10. B 【点拨】根据“he did not bring us gifts like these”可知双重否定表肯定,此处表示每次都带,用 never。故选 B。

13. D 【点拨】根据上文“He was so grateful that he didn't feel any pain from his disease which was seemingly a form of skin cancer.”
14. A 【点拨】根据“But if they had known him, perhaps their illnesses would have been easier to bear(忍受).” 故选 A。
