I'd like to introduce one of my favourite books. It's An Everlasting Life. It came out in China in July,2021.
The novel An Everlasting Life describes an irresponsible(不负责任的)mother who is a famous star of Shaoxing Opera,a popular Chinese opera. Although she is successful on the stage(舞台),she doesn't want to take her responsibility(责任)as a mother until she grows old and becomes badly ill.
The writer wanted to create this story when he happened to hear the story of his friend. His friend had a hard relationship with her mother. “In Chinese culture we think of mothers as the symbol of love,kindness and contribution(奉献). But in fact mothers have their personalities(个性)and not all of them are perfect. I wanted to write about an irresponsible mother and her feelings,”says the writer.
“I also wanted to show that a broken family may have a lot of problems but the family members still experience many things together. I believe it is the most touching moment of human life.”
The writer started to write the novel not long after he knew about his friend's story,but stopped when he found it too hard to continue. He took up writing it again last year,and finally completed it in 2021.
