How can you convince (说服) your parents that you are old enough to stay at home alone? Here is some advice.
Be responsible (负责的). Your parents won’t let you stay at home alone if you can’t be responsible. Do everything that your parents ask you to do, such as doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, and so on.
Ask to stay at home for a short time. Your parents won’t let you stay at home alone for a long time. However, you can get away with a short time. If you do well at staying at home alone, your parents will think that you are responsible enough to handle (处理) more time.
Do something safe. Explain that you know the basic rules of safety. This is very important. Tell them that you won’t answer the phone unless instructed (指示). Also tell them you won’t leave the house, or open the door for anybody. Your parents will be less worried if they know that you are doing something safe.
Don’t argue. Just listen to what they want to say, and accept it. Be nice, and try to understand their opinion, and they will respect (尊重) your decisions as well.
Try even harder. Try even harder to show that you are responsible. Your parents might notice the difference and change their minds. The harder you try to show that you are responsible, the more likely your parents will agree with you.
