The phoenix’s colourful feathers are given by hundreds of birds because the phoenix shares its food with the birds to help them get through a hard time when there is less food.
When Yang first showed the book to his 3-year-old son, the little boy was so excited that he kept yelling (叫喊) while looking at an image of fire. “At that moment, I believed that other kids would also like it. I hope my son has a chance to read good picture books about Chinese culture,” said Yang.
