You never know what you’ll discover if you stop and look around once in a while.Sean Kennedy,a gas engineer in England,did this often while out on the job.
One day,Sean was working,as usual,next to a busy roadside.Nearby was a rabbit hole,which caught his eye.With a closer look,the man found a letter inside.But when he picked the letter up,he realized that there were actually three in total.
It would make sense to suppose that these letters were blown there by the wind or some animals took them there.But Sean was certain it was not possible.“If so,they would be scattered. But these three letters were together,”he explained.“They’d been put there.”It appeared that the letters were simply a way for the sender to keep in touch with the receiver,though there was no way of knowing whether the conversation was with a relative,friend or pen pal.In fact,the name of the sender was not clear enough.
What Sean did know was that the letters were addressed to “Miss Jane”in York.One letter was postmarked(盖邮戳)in 1976 and the others from Cambridgeshire and Kent in 1982.
In an effort to solve this mystery and return the letters to their owners,Sean shared details of his findings online,along with pictures.Although many had heard of it,no one came forward to claim(认领)the letters.
Sean guessed that the people involved in these letters might no longer be alive,but he still thought it was worth a try and was happy to keep them safe during the time.“I’ll be happy to hand them over.It’s a mystery which is unresolved(未解决的)at the moment,”the man said.
