[北京市中国人民大学附属中学2026届高三统练]“Is the glass half empty or half full?” This old English saying has long been used to differentiate a pessimist from an optimist. For most young people today, the answer is usually “half full”, because we have been taught that a positive attitude towards life is one of the primary keys to success. 36
. Recent studies indicate that it all depends.
There is such a thing as too much positivity, also known as toxic positivity. It happens when someone remains in a happy and positive state and ignores any bad and negative emotions across all situations.
37
. The death of a pet, a low score on a test, or a mountain of new homework should lead to emotions such as sadness, frustration and anger. If we hide these emotions just because we want to look optimistic in front of our friends and family, they can build up inside of us and end up erupting in unexpected ways. 38
.
Imagine having had a bad day, and wanting to talk about it with your friend. However, instead of listening to your problems and sympathizing with you, they simply told you to “be positive” and to “look on the bright side.” By saying such things, they give you the impression that your problems are being completely ignored. Moreover, since you don’t have the right “attitude,” your problems are ultimately your own fault.
That being said, nobody likes to be around depressed people. Just take everything as it comes and express how you really feel. 40
. Given everything I have already said, my simple advice to you is to do that which gives you the best “attitude” in life, whatever for you that might be. Regardless of whether a glass is half-empty or half-full, it nonetheless still has space to fill.
A. However, is negative necessarily a bad thing?
B. This makes you human, and your true friends will stick by you.
C. But actually, it is normal for us to experience various emotions in a day.
D. This is why I would want to write about staying positive in difficult times.
E. Evidence suggests overly positive people are at higher risk of psychological problems.
F. Besides personal emotional impacts, toxic positivity can negatively affect people around you.
G. But with everything going on, it might feel to you like a continuous struggle to remain positive.
[长郡中学、湖南师大附中、长沙一中2026届高中毕业班7月摸底联考]It was a busy morning for me. As I was walking I saw an old lady, maybe in her 80s, standing quite close to the traffic. Although my mind was 41 , I thought I should warn her.

On the road were office-goers in cars as well as school buses 46 with children. It was the 47 time of the day to cross a busy road without a traffic light. I carefully stepped onto the road waving my hands wildly with 48 of almost expecting to be hit by an oncoming vehicle. I moved on to the middle of the road 49 to wave my hand. Just then a school bus was approaching me and I 50 walked in front of it and I 50 walked in front of it. Having watched my actions from the bus, the school children let out a 53 and clapped. As I turned to continue my hurried walk, the old lady pulled me by my hand and gave me a big warm 54 . I felt so happy and relieved, hoping the schoolchildren who were watching me would do the same when their 55 comes.

答案: 41.D 根据上文的“a busy morning”和下文的“continue my hurried walk”可知,作者当时很忙,思绪被占用。confused“困惑的”;refreshed“恢复了精力的”;distracted“注意力分散的”;occupied“被占用的,忙于”。
find“找到”;pass“经过”;reach“到达”;mark“做标记”。
43.B 空处与上文的“trying to get attention of passers−by”直接对应,说明路人因忙碌而未能注意到她。catch up with“赶上”;take note of“注意到”;make room for“给……让出地方”;look up to“尊敬”。
44.A 根据下文的“in the middle of the road”和“picked up the key”可知,老妇人站在离车流非常近的地方是因为她的钥匙偶然掉在马路中间了。drop“(意外地)落下”;pour“倾倒”;draw“画”;throw“扔”。
根据上文的“a busy morning”和下文的“but decided to help”可知,此处指作者虽然知道自己会被耽搁,但还是决定帮忙。injure“伤害”;trap“困住”;interrupt“打扰”;delay“耽搁,延误”。
rush“迅速移动”;talk“交谈”;bark“(狗)吠叫”;withdraw“撤退”。
47.B 根据下文的“to cross a busy road without a traffic light”并结合常识可知,这里指这是一天中穿过没有交通信号灯的繁忙路段的最糟糕的时刻。latest“最近的,最新的”;worst“最糟的,最坏的”;longest“最长的”;funniest“最滑稽的”。
48.B 根据上文作者的表现“carefully stepped onto the road waving my hands wildly”和下文作者的心理“almost expecting to be hit by an oncoming vehicle”可知,作者的内心是害怕的。surprise“惊讶,意外”;fear“害怕,担忧”;excitement“兴奋,激动”;delight“高兴,愉快”。
continue“继续做”;attempt“尝试”;start“开始”;pretend“假装”。
humbly“谦卑地”;naturally“自然地”;courageously“勇敢地”;awkwardly“局促不安地”。
根据下文的“I won”和“I quickly picked up the key”可知,作者的设想是正确的,作者成功将校车拦下并捡回了钥匙。 considerate“体贴的”;ignorant“无知的”;sick“厌恶的”;proud“骄傲的”。
lend“借出”;introduce“介绍”;promise“承诺”;return“归还”。
sigh“叹息”;whisper“低语”;cheer“欢呼”;laughter“笑”。
welcome“欢迎”;hug“拥抱”;treat“款待”;applause“鼓掌”。
结合上文的“hoping the schoolchildren who were watching me would do the same”可知,空处所在部分是指轮到他们的时候。choice“选择”;arrangement“安排”;turn“(轮到的)机会”;will“意志”。
