In a lonely village by a small river lived a young horse named Pony. Pony heard the grass on the other side of the river was tall and sweet. One sunny morning, Pony set out, only to find the river 1 his way.
As Pony stood on the riverbank, he met an elderly buffalo (水牛). "Don't be 2 . The water can only reach your ankles (脚踝)," the buffalo said. Pony was about to cross the river when he met a little squirrel (松鼠). "The river is too 3 . It's dangerous for your size. You'll get drowned (淹死)," the squirrel shouted.
Confused and unsure, Pony didn't know 4 he should listen to. At last, he decided to find out by himself. He took a deep breath and carefully stepped into the water. To 5 surprise, the river was neither as shallow as the buffalo described nor as deep as the squirrel said. It was just right—a perfect challenge for him to 6 .
With each careful step, Pony learnt that true understanding comes from hands - on experience. Advice from others can be valuable, 7 one should truly get knowledge and confidence through personal exploration (探索). As Pony 8 reached the other side, he felt really happy.
Learning 9 doing is the best teacher. Just like the little horse in the story, we all have to cross our own " 10 ". We can listen to others' advice, but in the end, we have to depend on our own experience to find the right way.
