Can plants eat people? Probably not, but there are many plants that eat meat. The Venus flytrap is a kind of meat - eating plant.
The Venus flytrap grows in wetlands in the Carolinas, the United States. It is not a large plant. It is only about a foot tall. The plant has white flowers in spring but it is the plant's leaves that make it so interesting. Its leaves are like the pages of a book. They can open and close very quickly. Inside the leaves, there are small hairs. When something like a small insect touches one of the hairs, the insect becomes its dinner.
The name "Venus flytrap" is not really a good name for this plant because it rarely (很少) catches flies. It mostly catches spiders, ants, and other insects. These insects land on the Venus flytrap because they can smell something sweet and they think there is food in the flower. The Venus flytrap makes most of its food with sunlight, air and water just like other plants. Living things like insects just give it extra nutrition to grow well in wetlands.
In North America, if you want to plant a Venus flytrap at home, you have to buy one from a special place. You can't take a Venus flytrap from where it grows! There are laws about taking it out of the wild.
