Claire works as a reading volunteer in her free time. She wants to help those children with reading difficulties. Some years ago, she joined in a volunteer programme(项目). It was a six - week programme with two half - hour classes a week.
Claire started reading with Zach. As a writer, she wanted to share her love of books with the boy. During their classes, Claire encouraged Zach to read for fun. One day, the boy asked Claire why he had to read. Claire told him he could find books on all his hobbies. “Are there books about planes, dogs or football?” Zach asked. “Yes,” Claire said. “There are books on anything you can think of.” After a few classes, Claire found their classes made a difference(有影响) to Zach. One day, Zach saw a new book and it was difficult to understand. However, he wanted to read it. “He started to choose the book he was interested in actively(主动地). I felt really excited about that,” Claire said.
The programme helps children read not only books, but road signs, birthday cards and emails. When children have a good reading habit, their life will be full of pleasure.
