Clothes not only keep us comfortable and safe, but also let us show ourselves. But some people aren't happy with the clothing choices because they're too expensive or don't suit their personality. What can we do?
Jeska Duman, from Chicago, makes clothes by hand. With nothing more than a sewing machine and love for her hobby, she has created shirts, dresses, and much more.
She starts with freehand drawings, and then turns them into designs. She can use different kinds of materials to create new clothes. The material itself is mostly second-hand. "I love resale shops. Most of my treasures comes from there with a low price," she said.
Duman taught herself to sew with the help of online videos. "I am self-taught and learned through a lot of mistakes. With the Internet, it's much easier to get started if you've never sewn anything," she said.
But why do people wear handmade clothes when it's so easy to just buy them in stores? Duman has a lot of thoughts on this.
"I've always found shopping for clothes very limiting(有限制的)—whenever I go shopping for ready-made clothing, there's always something I want to change for the better," she said.
"I am filled with happiness and confidence(自信) when making my own style, and getting dressed is more fun. I can choose what I wear," she added.
