Alex was born in a worker's family. His parents saved money for his future university education. They had dreamed their son could get a good job and live a better life. However, to Alex, school lessons were quite difficult.
One day when he was in senior high school, Alex went into the school psychologist's(心理学家的) office to ask for help.
"I've been trying hard, but I just can't do it," Alex was about to cry.
The caring psychologist put his hand on the boy's shoulder, "People have different kinds of talents, Alex. There are painters who are never able to learn maths, and engineers who can't sing on key(唱准调). But they all have their talents. Some day you will find yours. And when you do, you will make all of us proud of you."
After graduation, he found a job working in the garden around the town. Soon his customers began to notice that Alex had what they called a "green thumb".
The plants he looked after grew well, and the roses blossomed(开花). People started to accept his suggestions for gardening, because he had an eye for colour and light.
One day, he noticed a dirty land behind the city hall. He volunteered to make it into a garden. He bought some young trees, rose-bushes(玫瑰丛), and many other things. Before long, it had become a beautiful little garden.
Today Alex is the manager of a gardening company. He is very responsible and skillful. So his company is very famous around the town.
1. What did Alex's parents save money for?
2. Where did Alex go for help?
3. What did Alex do after graduation?
4. What preparations did Alex make to turn the dirty land into a beautiful garden?
5. What can you learn from Alex's story?(请自拟一句话作答)
