Scientists say the melting is caused by climate change. The thinning rate of glaciers is twice 2 high as it was 20 years ago.Alaska's melt rates are among the highest on the planet.
Even glaciers that used to be solid 3 (melt)now, such as ones in Tibet. The melting “mirrors"the worldwide increase 4 temperature and is from the burning of coal, oil, and gas. Some smaller glaciers are 5 (total)lost.
Shrinking glaciers are a problem for millions of people 6 use regular glacial melt for 7 (drink)water.Very fast melting can also cause 8 (dead)floods in places like India.
But the biggest threat to the world is rising sea levels. The world's oceans are already rising from climate change because water expands 9 it gets warmer.
Glaciers are responsible for 21 percent of sea level rise.We are at a point 10 we are trying to keep as much ice as possible and slow that rate of loss.
