Finally, the aftershocks were over. We were allowed to go home. My family were not hurt, but our house was damaged(受损的). The bookcases fell down and some things were broken. But we were lucky that we were all safe.
In the following days, we learned that the earthquake caused a lot of damage in the city. Many buildings collapsed and lots of people lost their homes and family.

Did you get lost while you were hiking in a new place? What did you do in that situation?
On 1st October in 2018, I was hiking with my parents in Fall Creek Falls State Park in TN. On the road, there were many leaves and they almost reached my knees. As a result, I couldn’t see the road clearly. So I just followed the marks(记号) on the trees. Everything was going well until I turned around. I found that there were no marks on the trees. I quickly decided to stop hiking. I knew which direction(方向) the car was in by using my compass(指南针) and the map of the area. So we walked for about 1 mile and got back to the car safely.
I learned a few lessons that day. First, always bring a compass and a map with you when you are in a new place. Second, turn around sometimes to see if there are marks behind you. Third, be very careful when you are hiking if there are leaves covering the road.
