Ⅵ. 阅读理解
阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)。
I’m Alena. One day, when I was in Grade 7, my English teacher announced suddenly that I would represent(代表) our class to attend the school English speech contest. I was so surprised that I couldn’t believe my ears! My knowledge of English was limited(限制) to a little primary school English. And I had never spoken English in public.
I refused the task without thinking twice. But my English teacher Mrs Brown insisted(坚持). “You can’t learn if you don’t try!” she said to me. Her words were a great encouragement to me. So I accepted the task.
There were some bad moments. But by the time I finished the task, I had been much better at English. And ever since, I have never refused to speak English in public and attend all kinds of English speech contests.
New things are always considered terrible. But each time you try something, you learn and as the learning piles up(积累), the world opens to you.
Now, I’m an English teacher. When my students are afraid to try new things, I always tell them, “________________________”
