Baking(烘焙) brings beautiful buns to life
Look at the little animals in the picture on the right. Can you guess what they are? Well, they are called huabobo, a traditional steamed bun in Shandong.
Zang Chaiyuan, a young woman from Yantai created this amazing set of works.
Zang has loved huabobo since she was a child. Her grandmother was good at making huabobo in all kinds of shapes. She said, “My grandmother always told me they would not only look beautiful but also taste delicious.” And so huabobo does.
After she finished college, Zang wanted to start up her own huabobo business. At first, her parents didn’t agree with her. But she didn’t want to change her idea. She learnt the basic skills from an experienced huabobo master(大师). It was not easy to make perfect huabobo, but she never gave up and kept practising. She even made nice - looking clothes for her “animals”. The “animals” seemed to take on a life of their own.
Finally, she successfully opened her first small huabobo shop in Yantai. Zang’s buns are very popular, and she receives many orders from around China. Zang said, “I love traditional Chinese culture and I hope more young people know this amazing traditional steamed bun.”
