时文阅读
What exercise have you done this week? How did you feel after the exercise? How would you feel about running for 15 minutes every day?
More and more schools in the UK have started to think that it is a good idea to have a 15 - minute run for every student every school day. It's called the Daily Mile. It's a race but there aren't any prizes for finishing first. It isn't about winning. It is about getting children to understand that exercise can be fun.
The Daily Mile started from St Ninian's Primary School in Stirling, Scotland in 2012, and very quickly the teachers saw some important changes. They said that the students were happier and less tired during that day. Because of this, they worked better in class. The teachers were really surprised that the children enjoyed running even when the weather was bad. The children's parents were also happy with what they saw. They said that running every day helped the children sleep better. But most importantly, they became healthier and none of the children in the school were overweight.
The government officials(官员) in Scotland now want students in all of their primary and middle schools to start running a mile a day. They think it could help the students get more interested in sports and do better at school and keep young people from becoming overweight. Would you like your school to start running the Daily Mile?
