Read the passage below and then choose the best answer to each question.
To all those students who hope to study abroad in the future, here are a few factors to consider.
A university for YOU
Many students become too obsessed (着迷的) with league-table rankings. While rankings are important, you should also look for courses that suit you. It’s best to write down all of your course preferences, and then choose a well-ranked university based on its suitability. After all, a degree from Harvard isn’t worth much if it’s not in a field that interests you. It’s also much harder to complete a degree in a subject not suited to you.
Increased challenge
Studying overseas is usually much more challenging. Not only will you need to complete your assignments on time and attend all your classes, but you may also experience difficulties due to a language or cultural barrier. Living abroad will almost certainly be more expensive, which means budgeting for rent, food, and transport is another challenge for overseas students.
Extracurricular activities
While your degree course should come first, it is only part of the university experience. The freedom of university gives you the chance to get involved in a mixture of societies, clubs, and activities. These could be academic clubs related to your course, or just something that interests you. They are a great way of meeting new people during your time overseas, and they could also positively influence your future job prospects.
Homesickness
Missing home is common for overseas students. The lack of familiar food, surroundings, and people can distract anyone from their studies. Think about how you would react to these differences. Though most universities have a Chinese society (club), it’s best to do some research first. Look for any information about the university and the city that could help you, and also for feedback from previous students.
