一、朗读下面文章。(满分5分)
Rest for Your Test
It’s not unusual for us to take fewer breaks when we are revising for a test. Practice makes perfect, right? But is this true? Should we take more breaks?
According to a new study from a Germany’s institute of health, when we spend lots of time revising, we don’t improve as much as we think we do. Rather, it’s taking a break before taking a test that can really help us to perform well.
For the study, 27 volunteers were required to practise typing 4-1-3-2-4 as fast as they could for 10 seconds and then rest for 10 seconds. This process was then repeated 36 times.
It was found that the volunteers performed at the same speed in each trial. It was only after they had a longer rest that they got faster.
According to the researchers, when people repeatedly revise something without taking breaks, their brains don’t have enough time to properly organise, store, and consider the new information. Taking short rest breaks, however, provides much better results.
For this reason, the researchers suggested, “It may be important to make the best of the timing and rest breaks when people practise the same task,” the US multimedia website Big Think reported.
二、根据上面文章回答问题。(满分5分)
1. How do you usually revise what you have learnt in school, revise for a long time without a break or take short breaks while revising?
2. According to the passage, who carried out the new study?
3. How many volunteers took part in the study? What was their task?
4. How were the volunteers able to type faster in the study?
5. What was the finding/conclusion of the study?
三、根据所朗读的文章及对以上问题的回答与思考,发表你对此项研究的看法。(满分10分)
内容包括:
1. Do you agree with the finding and conclusion? Why or why not?
2. If you agree, please talk about the importance of taking breaks while revising for a test. If you don’t agree, please give your ideas about why it is more important to revise without breaks before a test.
___

___
答案:
1. I usually take short breaks while revising. (This is a subjective question, and the answer can vary. For example, "I usually revise for a long time without a break.") 2. A Germany’s institute of health. 3. 27 volunteers. They were required to practise typing 4-1-3-2-4 as fast as they could for 10 seconds and then rest for 10 seconds, and this process was repeated 36 times. 4. It was only after they had a longer rest that they got faster. 5. When people repeatedly revise something without taking breaks, their brains don’t have enough time to properly organise, store, and consider the new information. Taking short rest breaks, however, provides much better results.
@@I agree with the finding and conclusion. Because when we revise for a long time without a break, our brains will be tired and can't concentrate, so the learning efficiency will be low. Taking short breaks can help our brains relax and better organise, store and consider the new information, so that we can remember the knowledge better and improve our learning efficiency. For example, when I revise for a test, if I study for a long time without a break, I will feel very tired and can't remember what I have learned. But if I take a short break every hour, such as listening to music or walking around, I will feel more energetic and can learn better. So taking breaks while revising for a test is very important.
