There was a little boy with a bad temper (脾气). His father gave him some nails (钉子) to drive into the fence (栅栏) when he lost his temper.
The first day the boy drove 37 nails into the fence. Then it began to become less. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail every time that he held his temper. The days passed and the young boy finally pulled all the nails out.
The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound (伤口) is still there. So you must learn to hold your temper, son. Don’t hurt others easily, especially your families and friends. Because love and friendship are important for everyone.”

Parents are the most important people in our lives. However, many of us don’t get along well with our parents. 11 Parents always want the best for us, but sometimes they don’t know how to express it. If you want to improve your relationship with your parents, here are some ways to help you.
Be respectful. Even if you don’t agree with their parenting style, values or rules, be polite to your parents. In this way, you can avoid unnecessary arguments with your parents. Try using polite language such as “Sorry” or “Would you mind if…?”, speaking modestly (谦虚地) such as “It maybe…”. 12
Don’t let things get worse. If you have an argument with your parents, do everything you can to repair the relationship sooner rather than later. 13 It will also mean you will be fighting for less time.
Be positive. Stay positive and warm. Smile at your parents. Let them know with your body language that you are happy to see them and that you care about their happiness. 14 This will help set a mood (心情) that will develop a positive relationship change.
Be open and honest. 15 This will help to build trust with your parents, which will improve your relationship with them. Have a regular communication so your parents can get a better understanding of your life, what upsets you, and what makes you happy. If you listen to your parents, they will be more likely to listen to you, opening the door for you to try discussing now to improve the relationship.
