五、(2024·廊坊市第十二中学期中)阅读理解
人与自我——做人与做事
Do you often feel afraid to try new things? Do you think you can't do well in some activities? Many people have such feelings, but you should always believe in yourself.
Tom was a shy boy. He was afraid to speak in front of the class. One day,his teacher asked him to give a speech. Tom was very nervous. He thought he couldn't do it. But his parents and friends encouraged him. They said,“You can do it! Believe in yourself!” Tom started to prepare for the speech. He spent a lot of time reading books and collecting information. He practiced the speech again and again.
When the day came,Tom stood in front of the class. At first,he was a little afraid. But when he saw his teacher's smiling face and his friends' encouraging eyes,he felt more confident. He began to speak loudly and clearly. Everyone listened carefully and clapped for him at the end of the speech. Tom was very happy. He realised that as long as he believed in himself,he could do something well.
Don't be afraid of difficulties. Don't put yourself in cages. Believe in your abilities and show your talents. You will be surprised at what you can achieve.
