Chinese People’s Police Day
In July 2020, China set 10 January as Chinese People’s Police Day. The first celebration took place on 10 January 2021. Chinese People’s Police Day is a holiday for the police in China. It gives full recognition (赞扬) to the police for their hard work.
Do you know why the holiday falls on 10 January? Because the police hotline is 110. It first started in Guangzhou on 10 January 1986. In 1996, the Ministry of Public Security (公安部) held a meeting and decided the whole country could use the hotline.
Now 110 is a symbol of the police in China. When people are in danger, they can call 110. Many police officers lost their lives in the line of duty. We should say thanks to them.
