二、阅读理解
(2024无锡宜兴期中)“If you think it's possible, you're halfway there,” said the 10-year-old boy Weber from Mildmay, Ontario of Canada. He collected 1,654.7 kilogrammes of aluminium can tabs(铝制易拉罐拉环) that were as heavy as a car. Weber made the record for the most aluminium can tabs collected for recycling(回收) in one year.
Weber started collecting can tabs in August of 2022. He wanted to recycle enough of them and use the money to help buy a wheelchair for anybody in need. Within a year, the collection grew larger and larger. Both he and his parents were surprised(惊讶的) by its record-breaking size.
How did Weber get the idea of collecting can tabs? He saw a man's video online. In the video, the man shared his story of collecting can tabs for many years. “This inspired(启发) me,” said Weber. “I know collecting can tabs is a small thing I could do, but if I make it a hobby and collect enough, it can make a big difference.”
Weber started collecting can tabs from around his house, on camping trips or family gatherings. He made up his mind to do good with the collection. Soon, word spread about his project, and it got his friends and family excited too. They started collecting their own can tabs to help out.
Then, Weber's mum and dad applied(申请) for the Guinness World Record title. Soon it was confirmed(被认可) that he was the new record holder!
