|农业专家杨华德|记叙文|258|★★★★|6 分钟|____分钟|____/4|
①In April 2024, 60-year-old Yang Huade from Sichuan received the “People Touching China for 2023” award. As a Chinese agricultural expert (农业专家), he has played a key role in developing agriculture in both China and Burundi.
②When Yang first arrived in Burundi, he was shocked that the country was too short of food. He wanted to change this situation. So in 2015, he led a team to Burundi. These experts shared their knowledge and experience to increase food production to meet the needs of the local population (人口).
③Burundi has a population of over 12 million, but only about $1.3$ million $hm^2$ of land is used for growing food. Though the country has enough water and sunlight, its agricultural productivity (生产率) remains low, and the rice types grown in this area are not fit for local conditions.
④As a scientist in the field of hybrid rice (杂交水稻), Yang clearly knew its advantages (优点). So the experts decided to introduce it to Burundi. Since April 2016, the expert team has chosen seven hybrid rice types. They came across many big challenges, such as the differences in climate and geological (地质的) conditions. Finally, they ended up with success after thousands of tests and studies.
